10 Galentine’s Day Songs for Empowering Women

By Maria Martinez

Valentine’s Day is one holiday all single ladies dread—I’m one of them. Whether you’re treating yourself with several pints of ice cream, watching chick flicks, or simply forgetting that the day even exists—single or not—take the day to remind yourself that you’re a badass by listening to some female-empowering songs or gather together with your girls for a Galentine’s Day Bash to celebrate each other “Lilith Fair style,” as Leslie Knope would say.

For those of you who may ask, “What is Galentine’s Day?” From the hit show “Parks and Recreation,” Leslie Knope, who is played by comedian Amy Poehler, has your answer. “Every February 13, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it breakfast style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus, frittatas.” Just another reason Galentine’s Day can be the self-care day women need. It’s a time to de-stress and reflect on positive moments in their lives. At the end of the day, just have fun!

Underneath, find 10 empowering female anthems that absolutely need to be on everyone’s Galentine’s Day playlist. Sing along alone in your bed (no judgment) or with your gal pals for a great together as a reminder of why all women are queens in their own right—from OG Cher and Britney Spears to the queens themselves, Beyoncé and Lady Gaga.
