“Sekiro Shadows Die Twice” is the next game released From Software, creators of “Demon Souls,” “Dark Souls” and “Bloodborne”. Sekiro is set in Japan, taking place years after the land has been stricken by war.

In typical From Software fashion, Sekiro will test player’s endurance and skill as they traverse through the world making their way from boss to boss. The game can be compared to the likes of “Dark Souls” and “Bloodborne” in its difficulty but that’s where the comparison ends.

The game introduces new mechanics to fighting as well as a vertical aspect none of the prior games were able to do. With the Souls series closed, Sekiro offers fans the hard, at times relentless, gameplay. Be prepared to die countless times.

Naughty Dog, the game developers behind the “Uncharted” series, gave gamers the most gripping story in 2013 titled, “The Last of Us.” In a world infested with zombie-like creatures, players were treated to the story of Joel and Ellie, the two main protagonists. The ending was shocking and left the outcome of the world uncertain.

Six years later after the release, ND will continue the story with “The Last of Us Part 2.” Years after the events of the first game, part two sees Ellie grown up and volatile. The questions left from the first game may finally be answered. If Naughty Dog can deliver another heart-wrenching story, gamers are in for a treat.

Electronic Arts has had the “Star Wars” license for a couple of years, but failed to capitalize on it with two critical failures under their belt, Battlefront 1 and 2. EA have also cancelled Visceral Games attempt at an open world “Star Wars” game.

Hope isn’t lost however, Respawn Entertainment, creators of “Titan Fall” and “Apex Legends,” are close to releasing their Star Wars Game. “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order” will be an action-adventure game based around an unnamed Padawan after the events of Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. If Titan Fall 2 is any indication of what Respawn are capable of, Fallen Order seems to be in good hands.

CD Projekt Red, the developers behind the “Witcher” series, have one of, if not the most, anticipated game of 2019,  “CyberPunk 2077.” The “Witcher 3” made a huge impact on the gaming industry. CD Projekt Red set the bar for action-adventure games, world size and story development. The Witcher was a massively full game with beautiful visuals, compelling stories and tons of activities. CyberPunk has been said to be a bigger game with more verticality set in a dystopian and violent future. If you liked what the “Witcher 3 “did, be on the lookout for CyberPunk, it’s dropping sometime this year!

Honorable mentions:

“Death Stranding” - Hideo Kojima’s first project after leaving Konami. The game seems complex, dark and beautiful with a cast featuring Norman Reedus and Guillermo del Toro. “Death Stranding” is set to release sometime in 2019.

“Ori and the Will of the Wisps” - “Ori and the Blind Forest” left an impression from its beautiful aesthetic and moving sound track. The sequel “Ori and the Will of the Wisps” sets to capitalize on the success of its predecessor.

“Mortal Kombat 11” - is just as brutal and just as intense and previous titles. The visuals look amazing and the mechanics look sharp, Mortal Kombat 11 drops April 23.
