We’re tired, we’re hungry, we’re on the go, but that doesn’t mean our bodies should suffer! Out of all the options college kids have today, whether it’s candy at the checkout line in Target or scrounging up a frozen pizza at home, there are ways of choosing better snacks to sustain our hungry minds for school, work and play.


If you’re craving… Choose this instead...

Potato chips Popcorn with olive oil and sea salt

Potato chips give a salty, crunchy fix that's hard to match. Grab some popcorn instead when you’re having a craving. You can pop it at home for a budget-friendly snack and a little goes a long way. There are also store-bought options that taste just as great when you’re on the go. Popcorn is a snack that you can eat large handfuls of and not feel as guilty as if you were to polish-off a bag of potato chips. Just one cup of regular potato chips is about 28g and 150 calories-- you can eat about six cups of popcorn for the same amount of calories.


If you’re craving… Choose this instead...

Coffee, soda Kombucha

Instead of coffee and soda throughout the day, check on what your body is trying to tell you. Maybe you need a nap or better nights rest to focus at school. Perhaps you’re looking for something to entice your senses instead. Kombucha offers millions of probiotics to stimulate your metabolism and carbonation to promote sensory stimulation. Often, when our gut health is off, we feel tired and slow.  Kombucha aids in the regulation of the digestive system while also coming in a variety of flavors.

Pizza Carrots with tomato and basil hummus

Carbs are satisfying and can be great for sustaining muscle mass when consumed properly, but carbo-loading can happen when we feel tired and need something to fill us up. Carrots have naturally occurring carbohydrates, yes, but they’re also packed with vitamins, minerals and are low in calories. Pair them with some tomato and basil hummus to cure your pizza cravings and enjoy.

Chocolate candy Trail mix with semi-sweet chocolate chips

The semi-sweet chocolate chips will offset the nutty flavor of the mix without unhealthy fats and additives from a chocolate bar. Nuts are a great snack that provides “good” fats, which will keep you feeling full and energized for hours instead of crashing after the quick, sugary fix a candy bar provides.


If you’re craving… Choose this instead...

A fast food burger Choose turkey jerky instead

Turkey jerky will provide you with protein and flavor-- without all the calories. Fast food sometimes seems like the only resort, but planning ahead saves you money that you would otherwise spend buying a burger combo. Jerky is fast, easy and keeps you satisfied while you’re in your daily routine.
