The Best Coffee Shops for Studying

By Isaura Aceves

Finding a great coffee shop to study in is like finding a perfectly ripe avocado — a satisfying and pleasant experience. If you’re anything like me, then you like a change of scenery every once in a while and you love trying new things, all while being productive. We’ve picked out three excellent coffee shops that will give you the motivation you need to help you stay focused and ace all of your classes this fall semester.

Caffé Bene

5751 Pacific Coast Hwy, Long Beach

Hours: Monday - Thursday 7AM - 10PM, Friday and Saturday 7AM - 11PM, Sunday 8AM - 10PM

Caffé Bene is located in the Bixby Village Plaza. It is walking distance from campus, and is a perfect spot if you’re looking for a quiet place to study, a cup of coffee or tea, or a menu filled with great selections to pick from. The atmosphere is friendly and mellow, perfect to study indoors or outdoors for your classes. I have been here a couple of times, and love their cold brew mocha frappe. A small size frappe will cost you $4.25. They also serve smoothies and tea, with the option of adding boba or whipped cream for $0.75. In addition to their drinks, they also have a great selection of sandwiches for breakfast. Their ham, egg, and cheddar croissant is $6.75. If you’re looking for a light lunch, I’d suggest their mandarin chicken salad for $10.95. Check out Caffé Bene next time you want to have a study session or simply grab a bite to eat or drink.

At Caffé Bene, abundant seating and a spacious interior will make all of your anxieties about finding a table disappear.

The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf

1212 N Bellflower Blvd, Long Beach

Hours: Monday - Thursday 7AM - 8PM, Friday 7AM - 6PM,  Saturday & Sunday Closed

If you’re looking for a place to hold a group study session and have some great conversations, look no further. Located on campus in the University Student Union, the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf is very popular. They’re known for their fast, efficient, and friendly service. The location is convenient for students and staff to grab a coffee, iced blended drink, or even a bagel before heading to class. There are a few tables inside the food court, but they have more seating options in the study hall or outside on the patio, which is great for group study sessions. I recommend trying their lemon cake for only $2.60; the softness of the bread will melt right in your mouth. I also had their hazelnut iced blended beverage, a perfect drink to beat the heat, for $4.65. You can certainly get some work done while sipping your tea or coffee right here on campus.

A warm, inviting interior and delicious beverages make the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf a coffee lover’s on-campus dream.

Tierra Mia Coffee

425 Pacific Coast Hwy, Long Beach

Monday - Sunday 6AM - 12AM

If you are looking for a late night space to study, Tierra Mia is the perfect place to go. The café is open until midnight every night, and has a menu filled with specialty coffee drinks, smoothies, and pastries to satisfy all of your sweet cravings. Tierra Mia is known for their Latin-influenced drinks such as their horchata frappe, a very popular drink for $3.95. On my most recent visit I decided to try a strawberry-mango fresca, an all-natural blended drink, for $3.95. The best part of this coffee shop is the flexible hours; you can come in anytime until 12 a.m. to grab a drink or study. It’s the perfect late night spot for students.
