The Siren’s Secret
BY ASTRID PEREZ
If you’re anything like me, you need your daily dose of Starbucks at least once a day. One of the best things about Starbucks is that they allow their customers to customize any drink with different syrups, milks and toppings. Customizations at Starbucks has allowed customers to create what is known as the “Starbucks Secret Menu.” The infamous secret menu includes chocolate bar flavored Frappuccinos and even drinks created from your favorite book. Whether you’re looking for a new favorite drink or something to treat yourself with, here are a couple of secret menu drinks that I recently tried.
Base: Crème Frappuccino
Add: Caramel syrup, Toffee nut syrup, Caramel drizzle
This drink was originally brought to life by The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios but if you can’t make it to Universal Studios, this recreation from Starbucks is just as magical. The butterbeer Frappuccino has the right amount of sweetness and the toffee nut syrup really brings out a rich and buttery flavor.
Chunky Monkey Frappuccino
Base drink: Java chip Frappuccino
Optional: Caramel drizzle
This drink is bananas. Just like the Ben and Jerry’s famous ice cream, this drink might become my new guilty pleasure. The mocha syrup in this drink gives it a rich flavor while the banana gives the drink a creamy and smooth texture.
Base Drink: Passion Tea, no water
Add: Soy milk, Vanilla Syrup, Berry inclusions
While this drink may be Instagram-worthy it’s definitely not a drink I would purchase again. The unusual ingredients in this drink don’t pair well with each other and the berries crunchy texture made this drink distasteful.
Base Drink: Caramel frappuccino
Add: Hazelnut syrup, Frapp chips, Mocha drizzle
Optional: Extra caramel drizzle
This Frappuccino is pure chocolaty goodness and the caramel drizzle gives it an extra touch of sweetness. For more of the gooey caramel Twix bars are known for, ask for extra caramel drizzle.
Friendly tip: While baristas are glad to make you a customized drink, remember that the secret menu is not created by Starbucks and many baristas may not be familiar with secret menu items so be sure to have the recipe on hand.
