Let’s face it, some of us may not have achieved our New Year’s resolution goal of getting in shape and feeling our absolute best this summer. Although you might think it is too late to find a way to get in shape before summer, cardio kickboxing could be the solution you have been looking for.
1. You burn a lot of calories in a short amount of time.
Each one-hour cardio kickboxing class burns up to 800 calories. Kickboxing incorporates the art of Muay Thai, focusing on strikes using your hands, feet, elbows and knees to build strength and coordination. Our schedules may only allow us to work out a couple times a week, but spending that time kickboxing can help you stay in shape.
“College students’ time is so valuable, so why not make the most of it?” Vic Arevalo, a kickboxing trainer at 360 Krav Maga Academy in Long Beach said.
2. It helps relieve and reduce stress.
Every class is different each time you hit the mat and it is a great way to keep the mind active while getting an intense workout in a short amount of time, according to Arevalo. The rigorous workout full of kicking and punching can also relieve and reduce the stress students feel from juggling several responsibilities.
3. You form friendships from other students motivating you.
For every class, not only is the instructor is pushing you to work harder but also other students. Arevalo often creates segments of the class where students work together and motivate each other not to quit. The support system creates a family-like environment, which mentally pushes each student and creates friendships.
4. You can gain more self-confidence.
While kickboxing classes are both dynamic and fun, they also boost your confidence as your skills develop.
“I have had the privilege of leading classes for students who had zero experience, who came in very meek and lacked confidence,” Arevalo said. “Within a short time, it was obvious they had grown.”
Arevalo said his students not only increased their proficiency in striking, but also their attitudes and how they carry themselves.
“That’s always an exciting thing to see happen and be a part of,” Arevalo said.
