Pumpkin Spice And Everything Nice

BY: PAOLA FERNANDEZ

The fall season is finally here and so is the acclaimed pumpkin spice latte. Love it or hate it, this festive trend makes you feel like it's Thanksgiving night and you’re anxiously waiting for that pumpkin pie to come out of the oven!

Cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and a “pumpkin spice” syrup give this latte its signature flavor, a recipe first made famous by Starbucks Coffee in 2003. Served hot, iced or ice blended, the “PSL”  is now its most popular seasonal beverage of all time.

Its huge success has led other coffee shops to join in on the pumpkin spice craze. Big names such as Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Peet’s Tea and Coffee and even McDonald’s McCafe now all have their own version of this tasty drink, but nothing beats local flavor.

Look here for three of the best places in Long Beach where you can pick up a uniquely crafted pumpkin spice latte this fall season.

Royal Cup Cafe & Coffee Shop:

This adorable coffee shop serves a truly mouthwatering hot pumpkin spice latte. It’s topped with whipped cream and cinnamon and unlike other pumpkin spice lattes, this one contains actual pumpkin puree. It is truly a remarkable take on the traditional pumpkin spice latte.

Royal cup serves the drink both hot and iced, and the best part is it’s available year round. No more crossing the days off the calendar in anticipation for the fall.

994 Redondo Ave, Long Beach, CA 90804

Aroma Di Roma Caffe Italiano:

Step into this Italian-themed coffee shop and taste one of the most delectable pumpkin spice lattes around. Don’t be fooled by it’s simplistic presentation, this drink packs a punch of sweet pumpkin and cinnamon flavor, and the blend is truly bellissimo!

This latte is definitely for those with a sweet tooth. It makes for an amazing treat and could even double as a dessert. This isn’t the only thing pumpkin lovers can indulge in at Aroma Di Roma. It boasts a  pumpkin pie, pumpkin chai latte, and for beer lovers: a pumpkin ale.

It’s A Grind Coffee House:

You can’t go wrong with a smooth, creamy and flavorful iced pumpkin spiced latte from It’s A Grind. This iced latte is a tribute to the basics, served simply over crushed ice. It is a perfect midday pick-me-up. Unlike Starbucks, It’s A Grind skips the artificial-looking, uber sweet, orange pumpkin spice syrup and goes for a more toned down yet still very delicious flavor.

It’s A Grind also caters to pumpkin spice lovers with its pumpkin caramel pecan latte (served ice blended or hot), and selling its own brand of pumpkin spice ground coffee which you can make in the comfort of your own home.

Although It’s A Grind is a franchise with several Southern California and international locations, they were originally established here in Long Beach in 1994. Their original location on Spring St. is still up and running, and serves a pumpkin spice latte that gives Starbucks a run for its money.
