For many young adults, the time spent in college is a time of financial struggle. Between paying the rent, purchasing textbooks and shopping for groceries, it is rare that one has the extra cash to purchase a new pair of jeans let alone go on a shopping spree! This is when wardrobing plays a very important role in our lives. Walking into a store, most college students thrive in the clearance section. However, even with a budget, it can be difficult to purchase an eclectic collection of clothing in order to redeem from an “outfit repeat” each week. So, what do we do?
We compulsively mix and match until the end of time! We purchase clothing items that can be worn with separate outfits in separate ways. Purchase timeless pieces that can transform for all events and occasions.
First, a basic white t-shirt. Start off simple by partnering it with your favorite pair of jeans. Accessorize accordingly and throw on a comfy pair of sneakers with a jean jacket. If your day is a little more eventful, throw on a pair of your most fashionable pumps with your blazer to transform into a business professional style for your meeting after class. Lastly, you could tuck your T-shirt into a skirt for a delicate Spring look. Depending on your individual style the skirt ranges; a printed maxi, a solid mini, or a retro pencil skirt. With a white t-shirt the possibilities are endless; get creative!
Another piece that every woman should have in her closet is the little black dress. This is a staple. It is very simple to change your appearance with this piece of clothing. In a casual situation, throw on some sneakers, layer it with a flannel and a beanie and head to class. As the day gets warmer, simply wrap it around your waist. If the weather is a bit cooler, grab your favorite pair of tights, maybe a patterned pair to add some sass to your outfit. Layer it with your coziest cardigan or your favorite scarf for a pop of color, and you instantly have an autumn look. Lastly, dress it up! Wear your favorite heels with a fitted jacket and some bold jewelry to dress it up a bit.
When you shop for staple pieces to complete your wardrobe, you will have endless options at your fingertips. It’s not about what you wear, it’s how you wear it. Learn to shop your own closet!
