DIG Appetit: Simmzy's

The infamous Belmont Shore in Long Beach, Calif. has earned notoriety for its endless variety of restaurants, which makes it difficult to decide where to eat. If stuck in this dilemma, look no further thanSimmzy’s, a delicious grill and pub located at the heart of Second Street. The only difficult thing about this place is choosing what to order, but you will not be disappointed with whatever decision you make. The appetizers immediately wake up your taste palate, as choices range from delicious caramelized brussel sprouts, to fresh ceviche, to an Indian-spiced spinach dip. The spinach dip has a unique fresh taste to it, and is accompanied by tasty, cheese flatbreads that complement the dish. There is a unique mixture of spices added to the dip to give it that kick to the taste buds.

The entree menu is very diverse, with choices like grilled fish tacos, an assortment of sandwiches and woodfire pizzas, as well as the iconic“Simmzy’s Burger.” The Simmzy’s Burger features a juicy tasty anguspatty with caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, cheddar cheese, and garlic aioli to give it the extra signature flavor. For those on a budget, there is the weekday lunch special, which includes: a half-sandwich, choice of salad, and soup of the day. The Bahn Mi Tuna sandwich is everything you would hope for in a tuna sandwich: fresh, tasty, and light. The caesarsalad is seasoned to perfection, and the tomato-basil soup is creamy and delicious. It is the perfect combination of flavors on a plate.

There are only two choices on the dessert menu; but let’s be honest, who really has room for dessert after all that wonderful food? If you do have room, however, the choices are chocolate truffle bread pudding or apple-filled donuts. Both are light choices to satisfy the palate after a perfect meal.

The ambience of this restaurant is very relaxed and “beachy,” and the waiters are always attentive and willing to help. It is the perfect place for everyone, from beer-lovers looking for 36 craft beers to choose from, to families looking for a good place to eat with a kid’s menu. When hitting up Belmont Shore with an empty belly, head up to Simmzy’s for a great dining experience.
